Lone Duck Among Ice Floes
One small swimmer holds the middle of a breaking-up bay.
A solitary duck cuts a dark silhouette across still water crowded with drifting slabs of ice, the floes thickening toward a low, wooded shoreline on the horizon. Layered cloud presses down in bands of slate and blue, and the light is flat and cold. The scale of the scene rests entirely on that one small bird — a quiet study of thaw, patience and open northern water.
