Break Against Black Rock
The Pacific throws itself at the reef and loses, again and again.
A wave detonates behind a low shelf of barnacle-crusted rock, sending white spray high against a flat grey sea and an overcast horizon. The foreground is smooth wet sand, still glossy from the last retreat of the tide. Shot in monochrome, the picture reduces the coast to three bands — muted sky, dark stone, pale sand — with the burst of water as its only bright, restless event.
