No. 019The Outdoors
Needle Ice at Dawn
Ground frost building itself into a forest of glass blades overnight.
A close study of needle ice — slender columns of frozen water pushed up from wet ground as it freezes, each blade a few centimetres of clear, splintered crystal. Flecks of rust-brown soil cling to the shafts and the dark earth recedes into shadow at the top of the frame. The near-monochrome palette and chaotic angles give the surface the look of shattered glass, held for a morning before the thaw.
